A search for two new position in ISyE is underway. The position description can be found here. John G. Carlsson has joined our Program as an Assistant Professor. John holds a PhD degree from Stanford in Computational Mathematics and a BS Degree from Harvard in Mathematics. His research deals with the development of optimization algorithms for solving resource allocation problems, particularly those involving a geographic component. Yimin Yu who has recently graduated from our program with a PhD degree has joined the faculty of City University of Hong Kong, a leading university in Hong Kong, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Science in the School of Business. Yimin has broad research interests in manufacturing and service operations, inventory theory, revenue management, and economics. Saif Benjaafar has recently been awarded a $375,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study carbon footprint and the management of supply chains. The grant is in collaboration with Mark Daskin from Northwestern University. More information about the grant can be found at: A paper co-authored by William Cooper and Diwakar Gupta is a finalist for the 2009 M&SOM Society Best paper award. The paper is titled “Stochastic comparisons in airline revenue management,” and was published in the journal Manufacturing and Service Operations Management in 2006. To download a copy of the paper click here for more information about the award and other finalists click here. Plans are underway to begin renovation of a new space to house ISyE faculty. Funding for the renovation has been recently approved by the Board of Regents. The new space will be located between Rapson Hall and the Mechanical Engineering Building. The architectural firm Studio Hive is overseeing the planning, design, and construction of the project. The tentative move-in date is January 15, 2010. Stay tuned for updates and pictures! The ISyE program is strongly represented at this year’s Annual INFORMS meeting. ISyE faculty and graduate students will make over 15 presentations on topics ranging from healthcare, energy and the environment, supply chain management, revenue management, transportation, and service operations. The ISyE Program is now officially an independent program within the Institute of Technology (the College of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics). Read the official news release here.
