The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) OptionUndergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering who select the ISyE option complete the same set of required courses as other Mechanical Engineering students, but at least 12 out of 15 credits of technical electives must be selected from courses in Industrial & Systems Engineering. The ISyE option gives students an understanding of managerial and human factor issues involved in designing products and running manufacturing, logistics, and service operations. Students also learn skills for analysis, optimization and simulation of large-scale systems such as factories, supply chains, healthcare facilities, and financial systems. Students who earn the ISyE option have the advantage of qualifying for both ME and ISyE jobs. Students exposed to managerial issues and systems thinking through the ISyE option can qualify more easily for managerial and leadership positions. The ISyE program in Minnesota is a top ranked program nationally. ISyE faculty are well known leaders in their field.
